Organizations & teams
Everything you do in ALIGN happens inside an organization. When you sign up, an organization is created for you, so you can start working alone right away and bring people in later. An organization is also the entity that owns the content created within it, holds the subscription and pays for what happens inside it.
How organizations work
Section titled “How organizations work”- You can belong to several organizations and create new ones at any time. Switch between them from the dashboard: each organization has its own Datastore, maps, apps and members.
- The organization owns the content. Maps, apps and data created inside an organization stay with it, with attribution to their author preserved. If a member leaves, their work remains available to the team.
- You can own up to two organizations without a subscription. To create more, move one of them to a paid plan.
Every member of an organization has one of four roles:

| Owner | Everything an admin can, plus billing and the life of the organization. One per organization — the role only moves through an ownership transfer. |
The Owner is responsible for the organization’s payment and settings. Day-to-day administration (inviting people, managing groups) can be delegated to Admins. The full capability matrix — exactly what each role can and cannot do — is on Roles & permissions.
Invitations
Section titled “Invitations”Owners and Admins invite people by email from the organization settings. The invitee accepts the invitation and finds the organization in their dashboard. Someone who does not have an ALIGN account yet signs up directly from the invitation and joins the organization, without having to create one of their own. Roles are assigned at invitation time and can be changed later.
Groups and sharing
Section titled “Groups and sharing”Admins can create groups: named subsets of the organization’s members, useful when different teams work on different projects.
Each item in the Datastore has one of four visibility levels:
- Private: visible to its author only,
- Group: shared with one or more groups,
- Organization: visible to every member,
- Public: exposed beyond the organization, for published content.
Who pays
Section titled “Who pays”A plan always belongs to an organization, never to a person. Each of your organizations has its own plan, its own credit balance and its own quotas; nothing is shared between organizations.
The organization where the work happens pays for it. Whatever a member does inside an organization (AI assistance, platform actions, storage, traffic) is paid by that organization, on every plan. The role you assign at invitation time is what controls spending: Editors and Admins consume the organization’s balance, Viewers never consume AI or actions. The Owner is the only role that manages billing.
Plans and trial
Section titled “Plans and trial”An organization without a paid subscription is on the Free plan. When you create your first organization, your account starts a 14-day trial and that organization receives a one-off starter budget of credits, so you can try both builders before choosing a plan.
Every plan includes a number of seats (a seat is held by every member with a writing role: Owner, Admin, Editor) and, on individual plans, a number of viewer places. Inviting someone, accepting an invitation and changing a role are all checked against these numbers, and the message tells you the way out: upgrade the plan, or on Pro, add an extra seat (each one converts a viewer place). On per-seat plans, viewers are free and do not hold a seat. An organization without a paid subscription cannot buy credits, packs or add-ons.
